I installed your product on my 2002 Yamaha
V Max this past weekend and I'm very pleased with it's features and
performance. If you're not familiar with the V Max, the tachometer is located
down by what is typically the fuel tank, requiring you to look down to see it.
If you wear a full-face helmet, you REALLY have to look down. All V Max owners
are looking for a tachometer solution and/or a shift light. I like that I have
everything in one with your product.
One major installation challenge is the
speed sensor. The V Max is a shaft-driven bike so there's not chain sprocket to
install the sensor on. As far as the brake rotor mounting method, there is not
enough clearance between the rotor and the caliper arm for the magnet to pass
under. Therefore, I had to improvise. I ended up drilling two small holes in
the plastic collar for the outer rear drive unit (see pictures) and gluing the
magnet to the plastic collar for the inner drive unit. The magnet passes
perfectly under the sensor and seems to adhere to the plastic surface with the
adhesive supplied.
The rest of the installation was easy. The
V Max has a "Boost" servo which samples the coil pulse for RPMs. I attached
the white RPM wire to the yellow wire for the V Boost circuit located behind the
left air intake. This required the RPM multiplier in the configuration to be
set to 2.
Finally, I opted to connect the red wire
(+V) to a 12 volt source that was hot only when the ignition key was on. I
didn't want the display on all the time.
